Shape your future Wisconsin

Census Thumbnail.png

Your community is counting on you. Southeastern Wisconsin is counting on you. We’re counting on you to shape our future in the U.S. Census. This spring everyone will get a U.S. Census form delivered to your mailbox. You can either return it in the mail or for the first time you can complete the form online. It is important that all of us participate so we can be properly represented in the state legislature and in Congress. Also at stake is nearly $900 billion dollars in federal money every year. The census impacts the amount of money our region receives for things like roads, bridges, hospitals and schools. Your response is one hundred percent confidential. The Census Bureau is required to keep your information private. Don’t forget to participate in the census and help shape our future. Wisconsin is counting on you! For more information on the census please go to 2020Census.gov.

Recent Updates on COVID-19 from the State

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has received a record number of unemployment insurance (UI) claims. Last week the department received 1.5 million calls. Because of the high volume of phone calls, DWD encourages everyone seeking UI benefits to apply online. Last week they released an updated video called “How to Apply for Wisconsin Unemployment Benefits Online.” If you are not sure whether you qualify for UI or have other questions relating to UI, see COVID-19 Unemployment FAQs for Claimants.

Earlier this week the Department of Children and Families (DCF) announced a new website to help parents working in essential professions find child care near their home or work. DCF also introduced an available child care map so families in need of child care can view up-to-date availability.

Special Shopping Accommodations for Seniors

Special Shopping Hours.png

Above is a list of grocery stores in our community that are offering special shopping hours to seniors. Most stores are also offering the considerations to other populations deemed at higher risk for severe illness caused by COVID-19 (per the CDC), including those with certain underlying health conditions, people who are immunocompromised and pregnant women.

Additionally, Meijer is offering special hours for essential service workers from 7-8am on Mondays and Wednesdays.

How You Can Help

  • Help your favorite small businesses. Grab a meal or snack for take-out or shop online from local businesses to help them stay afloat and in good spirits during this time of uncertainty.
  • Limit stockpiling of food and other supplies – grocery stores and pharmacies will remain open.
  • Donate blood if you are healthy. The Safer at Home order does not prevent you from making a lifesaving donation. Sites are taking extra precautions to ensure giving blood is safe for donors. Find a blood donation location that’s convenient for you by visiting https://www.redcrossblood.org/ or https://donor.bcw.edu/donor/schedules/zip.
  • Donate to food banks or local charities.
