Dear Neighbors,

Hope you all are doing well! This has been a long winter, and I know that I am excited for some spring weather. The State Budget has been introduced and I will provide updates as the debate moves forward. Beyond the budget, we remain focused on building bi-partisan solutions for criminal justice reform.

To also provide more news and daily updates I post frequently on my official Facebook page. I hope it helps keep you informed. Please feel free to visit my page here. This session I'm expanding my use of twitter as well. This is a link to my twitter page.

I hope this e-update is helpful. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (608) 266-0645. I welcome any feedback or ideas you may have. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Expungement Reform Updates

Our expungement reform bill continues to make headway! On March 7, the bill had a public hearing in the Assembly Criminal Justice committee with favorable comments, and resulted in a strong bipartisan vote. The Senate Judiciary committee public hearing was similarly positive, and the bill now heads to the Assembly floor for final passage. After that, the bill will hopefully be voted out of committee and scheduled for a vote soon. I am so excited about the response this policy has gotten and the true bi-partisan effort to get the expungement process modernized. Again, information about the bill- now with bill numbers AB33/SB39- can be found HERE

The 2019-2020 Budget

The budget is here! I am offering my wholehearted support for the Governor’s budget. Some of the proposed provisions that are especially exciting are Medicaid expansion, increased Special Education funding, a sustainable solution for transportation funding and investment in public transit. The process will be long and complicated, but please do not hesitate to contact my office with any process or content questions. The Budget in Brief is a good resource for anyone who wants to dig in deeper to what the State Budget contains, and this handout has a summary of the process, main policy goals and ways to get involved. Additionally, the full Legislative Fiscal Bureau budget analysis is now public.

Criminal Justice Panel

This month, I participated in two panels with focuses on criminal justice- one in Milwaukee focused on expungement, an one in Madison at the Tommy Thompson Center.

Welcoming Visitors to the Capitol Office

Thank you to this group of public school students for coming to Madison to learn more about government and public service.

Disability Advocacy Day

Mr. Cole is a constituent and World War II veteran. We had a wonderful visit talking about his service and how we at the State can work with his coalition to help veterans and elders in communities across Wisconsin.

Conservation Lobby Day 2019

I met with constituents Nathaniel Ragatz and Felice Green, Community Engagement Coordinator with Milwaukee Riverkeeper (MRK), and Cheryl Nenn from the organization to discuss safe, clean drinking water for Milwaukee residents and other environmental issues during the 2019 Wisconsin Conservation Lobby Day event.
