Evan Goyke State Representative 18th Assembly District
From the 18th:
This month, I visited the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club in Sherman Park, was interviewed on a podcast, featured on a panel with the Wisconsin State Bar, and toured our own Miller Coors factory, among other coffees, meetings and events!
On January 16th, I met with Governor Tony Evers to discuss legislative priorities and issues important to our community.
The Governor is committed to helping our community and I look forward to working with him in the months ahead.
Progress on Expungement Reform
The expungement bill is making headway! Along with Rep. David Steffen, we’ve managed to gather a majority of co-sponsors from both the Senate and the Assembly, with a final list of 54 representatives and 17 senators from all over the state alongside many community groups and associations. The next steps for the bill will be a public hearing in the Assembly Criminal Justice and Senate Judiciary Committees. We are very hopeful that the bill will be successful, creating more opportunities for thousands of Wisconsinites with a prior conviction. If you would like more information about the Bill, click HERE. I also posted some clips of the press conference on my Facebook page.
Joint Finance Committee
February 8 was my first meeting as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance with my fellow Joint Finance Committee Democrats. Together we opposed the majority party's proposed spending plan. I am proud to be a Democrat and prioritize vital investments in our State including affordable health care, strong public schools, and safe roads - and provide tax relief to middle class families. This work should be bipartisan and done together in the budget process. I will continue to stand with my Democratic colleagues in favor of a more responsible and sustainable middle class tax cut. There will be much more about Joint Finance and the Budget process forthcoming.
