Milwaukee lawmaker lays out plans to reduce crime, save money
“These are connected. We can reduce incarceration and reduce crime,” Goyke said at the Capitol Thursday. “We’ve got the money. We’re spending it. We’re just not spending it the most effective way. We can reform our criminal justice system and reinvest on the front end.”
As we move into May, I wanted to give you an update about the state budget process and the other important projects I have been working on. I hope you are enjoying the (mostly) good weather and I know I am excited for the beginning of summer and walking our family dog Pistachio!

Evan Goyke State Representative 18th Assembly District
This month my staff and I traveled from Janesville to Superior to hear from the people about the governor’s budget. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive about topics from Medicaid expansion to transportation funding to special education. We heard from teachers, personal care workers, parents, students and individuals from all areas of the state. People agreed that the budget takes important steps to protect our kids, give Wisconsinites health care access and repair our infrastructure after years of neglect. If you did not have a chance to attend the Milwaukee-area budget hearing, please get in touch with my office through any of the platforms listed above to share your comments on the budget.
Green Bay Public Hearing
Milwaukee Budget Listening Session
No Vacancy Policy Presentation
As you know, criminal justice and corrections reform are policy areas important to our community and issues I have worked on since my election to the legislature. On April 11th I conducted a policy briefing to legislators, staff, and members of the public regarding ways to reduce crime in Wisconsin and initiatives to reduce the State’s prison population. Alongside the ACLU’s Molly Collins and Reggie Moore from the Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention, I demonstrated the balance between reducing incarceration and then reinvesting the savings back into communities to help curb violence. I was happy and honored to bring together a truly bipartisan room numbering near 90 individuals to listen and discuss this important issue.
