Rep. Goyke Appears on "UpFront" to Discuss Criminal Justice & Corrections Reform

Since my election to the legislature I have worked on criminal justice and corrections reform. I am pleased to report that progress is being made in a bi-partisan manner. On January 6th I appeared on UpFront with Mike Gousha to discuss opportunities this session to work with my colleagues on corrections and criminal justice reform.

Friends and Neighbors,

I hope this communication finds you and your family well. With the new session of the legislature now underway following inauguration last week, I wanted to keep you updated and informed on what policies and pieces of legislation I plan to advocate for on behalf of our community. Thank you to all of you who have offered ideas and provided feedback. I always welcome your thoughts and opinions as they better help me serve you as your State Representative. The ideas below are just a selection of the many exciting initiatives I intend to work on during the 2019-2020 legislative session.

As your representative it is always my goal to be as accessible as possible. If your neighborhood association, club, or community group is having a meeting, please consider inviting me to attend. We can discuss how your voices, values, and concerns influence my work in the Capitol. Please call my office at (608) 266-0645 and let me know about your local event. I’d love to visit with you back home in Milwaukee.

I hope this update is helpful to keep you informed of my work on behalf of our community. I welcome any feedback or ideas you may have. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Legislative Initiatives for 2019:

I was proud to have introduced last session 8 important pieces of legislation that became law in which I was one of the principle authors. I have a number of ideas and initiatives planned for legislative action and below is short list of some of the highlights.

Criminal Justice Reform:

  • Juvenile and Adult Corrections

  • Expungement

  • Compassionate Release

  • Crimeless Revocations

  • Earned Good Time

Budget Priorities:

As a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, one of my primary responsibilities this session will be my work on the State budget.  The State budget contains the majority of funding for critical state programs.  The last State budget was over $70 Billion spent over 2018-2019.

I am excited to work with Governor Tony Evers to craft a budget that invests in critical areas, including:

  • Affordable, quality Healthcare

  • Fixing our aging Infrastructure

  • Providing a world-class Education
