Energy Assistance

I encourage you to closely examine your residence to see how you can winterize and make your home more energy efficient so you can save money on heating and electric costs.

The United States Department of Energy and its Energy Saver Website provide many ideas and resources on how to save on energy costs.

Wisconsin's Focus on Energy Program helps citizens lower their energy consumption and costs by making their homes more energy efficient. Please visit their website here to learn how you can save more money on your energy bill.

Employment Resource

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has a Skill Explorer website that provides a free job search tool allowing Wisconsin workers to search for employment opportunities that match their existing skills and training. Skill Explorer can be found by clicking here.

Workers can search for career opportunities on the Skill Explorer website by typing in their former or current job title. Skill Explorer provides a list of current openings relating to the work experience of that job through openings on Job Center of Wisconsin. Skill Explorer provides overviews explaining what each specific job entails, how much workers typically make in that position, and any special training or background needed for the occupation. Skill Explorer’s mapping function will show hot spots in the state for particular occupations, as well as allow individuals to search for current openings by county.

Friends and Neighbors,

I hope this communication finds you and your family well. With the new session of the legislature beginning in January, I also wanted to keep you updated and informed on what policies and pieces of legislation I plan to advocate for on behalf of our community. Thank you to all of you who have offered ideas and provided feedback. I always welcome your thoughts and opinions as they better help me serve you as your State Representative.

As your representative it is always my goal to be as accessible as possible. If your neighborhood association, club, or community group is having a meeting, please consider inviting me to attend. We can discuss how your voices, values, and concerns influence my work in the Capitol. Please call my office at (608) 266-0645 and let me know about your local event. I’d love to visit with you back home in Milwaukee.

I hope this update is helpful to keep you informed of my work on behalf of our community. I welcome any feedback or ideas you may have. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Rep. Goyke Appointed to Committee on Joint Finance

Last week I was appointed to the legislature’s powerful Joint Committee on Finance for the upcoming 2019-2020 legislative session.

The Joint Committee on Finance is comprised of 16 legislators - 12 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Its duties include the review of all state appropriations and revenues, as well as the Governor’s biennial budget recommendations.

I am honored to serve you and the State of Wisconsin in this important role. I will be joining our State Senator LaTonya Johnson on the committee. Our state is at a critical point in its history. It is a great privilege to have a seat at the table as we begin discussions on the biennial budget that will determine our priorities moving forward. I look forward to bringing my own experience and expertise to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard when making important policy decisions.

Special Session Legislative Update

As many of you saw in the news, the legislature was in session earlier this month to debate legislation that will limit the powers of the incoming Governor-Elect, and Attorney General-Elect, among other law changes. I strongly opposed this legislation and voted against these bills on the floor of the Assembly.

Please click here to view my floor speech and my full statement may be found here.

Thank you again to all of you who wrote, called, and engaged with your legislators.

To help continue to keep you informed, please click here for a summary of the legislation published by the non-partisan legislative fiscal bureau. I hope you will find this helpful.

Thank you again for your advocacy and continue to stay engaged!

Milwaukee -The Bridge to Wisconsin's Future

Over the past year I have worked to share my vision of and commitment to our great city. This publication seeks to showcase the cultural and economic expansion in the city, my policy ideas to ensure the progress continues forward, and share with you the positive things I see in the city on a daily basis.

As a legislator, I know Milwaukee’s future is bright – we are the cultural and economic hub of Wisconsin. The “The Bridge to Wisconsin’s Future” publication provides clear examples of how vital Milwaukee’s economy is to Wisconsin, and showcases examples of positive change throughout our community. I encourage all Wisconsinites to get to know our community and the great things going on every day in neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee.

I’m incredibly proud of the Bridge to Wisconsin’s Future publication. I am grateful for the hard work of our neighbors that, together, make Milwaukee such a great place to live, work, and play. I hope readers enjoy seeing the momentum in Milwaukee and I hope we continue to work together as a community to move Milwaukee forward.

Rep. Goyke To Lead Legislature In Reforms To Wisconsin's Expungement Law

Earlier this year the non-partisan Wisconsin Policy Forum released a report, "A Fresh Start: Wisconsin's Atypical Expungement Law and Options for Reform," highlighting the need for reform to Wisconsin’s current expungement law. The report follows on bi-partisan legislation I introduced last session with my colleague Rep. David Steffen (R-Green Bay) that provides comprehensive reform to Wisconsin’s outdated and
inconsistent expungement law. Assembly Bill 331, introduced in May of 2017, lays the groundwork legislatively for many of
the policy recommendations found within the report.

Current law requires a judge to make an expungement determination at the time of sentencing. Future legislation will
remove that requirement, allowing youthful offenders a chance to have their record expunged after completing their sentence, and give judges the opportunity to consider an individual’s post-sentence behavior when determining expungement. Wisconsin employers and workforce leaders will receive a clear definition of what expungement means and how expunged records are to be handled. Individuals will also be informed of their expungement options at the time of sentencing, among other additional legislative changes.

This report will help show our colleagues in the legislature why reform is needed.
