On March 20, the Senate passed bipartisan legislation authored by my colleague Rep. Terry Katsma that makes common-sense changes to Wisconsin's sheriff sale process. These bills will help stabilize neighborhoods, reduce crime, and increase property values in neighborhoods throughout the state that need it the most. Assembly Bill 690- This bill enables counties to host sales of foreclosed properties via an Internet-based auction, making the process more accessible and transparent for bidders and investors in the neighborhoods that need them most.

Assembly Bill 691- This bill prohibits a buyer from acquiring a new property at a sheriff sale if the buyer is already more than 120 days delinquent on property taxes or building code judgments. To read the full WisPolitics article, please click here.

Inmate 501

I created the publication, Inmate 501, to showcase the converging crises we are facing in the Wisconsin Prison system: the overcrowding adult population and a declining juvenile population. With this in mind, I authored AB 953 which will address these issues the Criminal Justice System in Wisconsin faces.

Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family are well! I wanted to provide you with a couple of important legislative alerts.

First, I want to say thank you to all of the neighbors who called, emailed, wrote in, attended meetings and rallies to call for action to close Lincoln Hills.  Our community spoke with loud persistence and made these coming changes possible.

At the end of last year, I conducted a policy briefing to the State Legislature to address the the converging crises in the Wisconsin prison systems: The rising adult population and declining juvenile population.

On March 22, the legislation that I co-authored with my colleague Rep. Michael Schraa (R-Oshkosh) and fellow Milwaukee Democrats Sen. Lena Taylor, Rep. David Bowen, and Rep. David Crowley to repurpose Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake into an adult facility, adopting a smaller, risk-based regionalized juvenile corrections system similar to that of Missouri was passed unanimously by both the Senate and the Assembly. Though we still have more corrections reform to do, this legislation is a huge step forward for the Wisconsin criminal justice system and proof that great things can be accomplished if we work together on a bi-partisan basis.

As your representative it is always my goal to be as accessible as possible. should any questions or concerns arise, please call my office at (608) 266-0645. Additionally, to provide more news and daily updates I post frequently on my official Facebook and Twitter pages. I hope it helps keep you informed. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Lincoln Hills Closure:

History in the Making

We've been working to close Lincoln Hills for years. After countless meetings, hearings, rallies, bills, and endless individual advocacy, the plan to close Lincoln Hills unanimously passed the Senate and Assembly. I am proud to have contributed a significant role in drafting and guiding this historic piece of legislation, what we call "The Wisconsin Model." To view the full press release, please click here.

On February 13th, I joined my colleagues for a press conference to announce the proposal for the closure of Lincoln Hills

Below are some pictures of the effort over the years. The first is a picture of the welcome sign that I took from my phone on a visit back in 2015. Next is a picture from presenting the need for regional facilities that I gave in February 2016. Next are pictures from last week, when the years of hard work became a reality.
