Rep. Goyke speaking at the Non-Profit Center of Milwaukee

On June 16th I had the honor of participating in a workshop hosted by the Non-Profit Center of Milwaukee and the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation on how stakeholders and citizens can interact with elected officials and better advocate for policy changes.

On June 5th I joined with my colleague Rep. Brostoff in visiting and touring Quorum Architects in Milwaukee. Thank you to their excellent staff for the tour and education!

The above photo is an insight and behind the scenes view of my job as Ranking Member on the Assembly Criminal Justice Committee. Prior to each hearing, all members and staff of the committee meet in my office to discuss the bills up for a hearing and debate strategy.

Rep. Goyke testifying before the Assembly Veterans Committee

On June 8th I had the honor of testifying before the Assembly Veterans Committee in support of two bills I authored that received a public hearing- the Wisconsin Veterans Farm Bill of 2017 and legislation to benefit disabled veteran-owned businesses.

The hearing room is named "GAR" in honor of the post-Civil War veterans group The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). The GAR members met in the hearing room for a number of years and it also served as a veterans museum. The room is very fitting to host the Veterans Committee meetings.

Pathways to Employment for Youthful Offenders Advances

As you know  I am co-authoring a very important piece of legislation with my colleague, State Rep. David Steffen (R-Green Bay), that is a comprehensive reform to Wisconsin's expungement law. I am proud to report this legislation, Assembly Bill 331, received a public hearing on June 1st and was voted out of committee with approval on June 8th.

Please click here to view video of my public testimony.

The Wisconsin State Bar, who is in support of the legislation, published an article about the bill which can be viewed here.

This bipartisan legislation provides comprehensive reform to Wisconsin’s expungement law and is an important step in connecting employers in need with potential employees who are looking to overcome their past and find success in the workforce.

I was also recently interviewed by WORT about this legislation. Please click here for article and radio interview audio.

Rep. Goyke Legislation Helping Veterans Approved by Committee

I am proud to report that after months of work and advocacy two important pieces of legislation I have authored to benefit veterans in Wisconsin are advancing.

On June 8th the Assembly Veterans Committee held a public hearing on Assembly Bill 80 and Assembly Bill 302. Both pieces of legislation were approved in a bi-partisan vote on June 22nd.

Assembly Bill 80 puts Wisconsin in-line with the federal government on who it certifies as a Disabled Veteran-Owned Business.

Assembly Bill 302, The Wisconsin Veterans Farm Bill of 2017, creates the Veteran Farmer Assistance and Outreach Program within our state's Department of Agriculture and also creates a logotype issued by the State for certified veteran-owned farms and products.

Introduction of Marijuana Decriminalization Legislation

On May 30th I was proud to join my colleagues State Rep. Adam Jarchow (R-Balsam Lake), State Rep. Jonathan Brostoff (D-Milwaukee) and State Senator Fred A. Risser (D-Madison) in circulating for co-sponsorship an important piece of legislation that reduces penalties related to low-level marijuana offenses.

Please click here for U.S. News and World Report Article.

At the bill's unveiling I spoke of the collateral consequences of such a conviction and how it impacts a young person's life including: Possible loss of voting rights, student loan eligibility, and professional licensure, among others.
