Energy Assistance

As our temperatures increase and your air conditioning kicks in, I encourage you to closely examine your residence to see how you can make your home more energy efficient so you can save money on cooling and electric costs.

The United States Department of Energy and its Energy Saver Website provide many ideas and resources on how to save on energy costs.

Wisconsin's Focus on Energy Program helps citizens lower their energy consumption and costs by making their homes more energy efficient. Please visit their website here to learn how you can save more money on your energy bill.

  At the Capitol

I recently welcomed constituents Allyson Nemec and Kurt Zimmerman to the Capitol to discuss local development in Milwaukee and Historic Preservation. Thank you for visiting!

Rep. Goyke with Ms. Nemec and Mr. Zimmerman

Employment Resource

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has a Skill Explorer website that provides a free job search tool allowing Wisconsin workers to search for employment opportunities that match their existing skills and training. Skill Explorer can be found by clicking here.

Workers can search for career opportunities on the Skill Explorer website by typing in their former or current job title. Skill Explorer provides a list of current openings relating to the work experience of that job through openings on Job Center of Wisconsin. Skill Explorer provides overviews explaining what each specific job entails, how much workers typically make in that position, and any special training or background needed for the occupation. Skill Explorer’s mapping function will show hot spots in the state for particular occupations, as well as allow individuals to search for current openings by county.

2013-2014 Blue Books

Each legislative session, the State of Wisconsin prints Blue Books and allocates a number of them to legislators to distribute to constituents back home. Blue Books are a wonderful resource to learn about and understand State Government. I still have a number of Blue Books available. If you would like one, please contact me and I can drop it off in person or mail it to you directly.

Friends and Neighbors,

I hope this brief e-newsletter finds you and your family well and that you have been enjoying the beautiful weather!

As you know, Governor Walker has introduced his budget to the State Legislature for consideration. The budget bill is currently being debated by the Joint Finance Committee. In addition to holding hearings at the Capitol, the Committee will be holding a field hearing in Milwaukee this Friday, March 20th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Alverno College's Pitman Auditorium.

I am writing to invite you to this hearing. I highly encourage you to attend to register your thoughts on the budget proposal or testify briefly before the committee by providing oral testimony. This is an opportunity for your voice to be heard! I will be there and hope to see you there as well.

I have included more information and details below. If you have any questions you can always call me. An official copy of the hearing notice may be found here

I hope this update is helpful, I welcome any feedback or ideas you may have. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Since my last update to you, I have heard from even more members of our community who are concerned about various provisions in the budget. Please know that I am continuing to review the budget in its entirety and am working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to find ways to improve it and remove harmful proposals.

If you have ideas or thoughts, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to hearing from you.

As I mentioned above, the Joint Finance Committee will be holding a field hearing in Milwaukee THIS FRIDAY. Please consider attending! This is an opportunity for members of this committee to hear directly from you!
