I'm sharing
the reduction of my "bad cholesterol" over the last few months. This
winter I saw my doctor, at
Progressive Community Health Center on
35th and Lisbon. I hadn't been to the doctor in a long time. I was
unhealthy and my doctor let me know it. We came up with a plan. It was
time to eat better and start exercising.

Rep. Goyke speaks to constituents and advocates on Criminal Justice Reform 2013-2014 Blue Books Each legislative session, the State of Wisconsin prints Blue Books and allocates a number of them to legislators to distribute to constituents back home. Blue Books are a wonderful resource to learn about and understand State Government. I still have a number of Blue Books available. If you would like one, please contact me and I can drop it off in person or mail it to you directly.

Rep. Goyke attending a recent Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting. Rep. Goyke was recently appointed to the Council which is currently examining Evidence Based Decision Making practices in our criminal justice system. Budget Update: As you know, the legislature continues to debate the 2015-2017 biennial budget. I have heard from a number of you regarding your support and concerns for various provisions within the budget. I appreciate and thank you for your engagement. The ongoing debate, and recent delays, encompass a number of issues important to our community. Below are three provisions related to public education that I strongly oppose and would like to highlight: 1.) The MPS Takeover Plan 2.) Changes in Teacher Licensure Requirements Republican members of Joint Finance Committee introduced and adopted a massive overhaul to the K-12 education system in the late hours of May 19th. This overhaul, dubbed the “K-12 Omnibus Plan,” included a number of proposals that are harmful to public education in our community. This happened at 1:30 a.m. I was personally present and slept in my Capitol office that night to ensure that our community was represented throughout the process. Policy should not be debated and voted on in the middle of the night. One proposal in the GOP motion is the MPS Takeover Plan. This plan creates a new program within Milwaukee Public Schools under the management of a Commissioner selected and supervised by the Milwaukee County Executive. The Commissioner would have the power to transfer the lowest rated public schools out of MPS control and place its operation and management under the authority of a charter or voucher school. Please click here to find a release I authored with my colleagues in opposition. Another proposal is a massive change in teacher licensure requirements. Under the proposed plan, an individual with a bachelor's degree would be allowed to teach K-12, and, according to the proposal, someone without a high school diploma could teach non-core classes. 3.) Elimination of the Chapter 220 Bus Program Under Governor Walker's budget he has proposed to eliminate the Chapter 220 Bus Program, which has been in effect since the 1976-1977 school year. This program allows for the exchange of students from the inner city to attend school in the suburbs and vice versa. Originally implemented to help with the integration of Milwaukee public schools, this has been a very valuable tool in our public education system. Please know that I will continue to do all that I can to ensure these harmful proposals are removed from the budget.
