 Special Session

Special Session Press 10-21.jpg

This week, Governor Evers called on the State Legislature to meet in a special session on gun violence legislation. These bills are Extreme Risk Protection Orders and Universal Background Checks. Read more about the Special Session announcement here, and watch the full press conference here. The Special Session will take place on Thursday, November 7th at 2pm.

Let us know your thoughts -- what do you think about the special session?

Children & Families Committee
C&F 10-13.jpg

On Wednesday, I came to Madison for an Assembly Committee on Children and Families Public Hearing. We heard testimony from the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Safety and Professional Services on three rule changes:

CR 18-098 creates a process by which certain professions can practice substance abuse counseling as a specialty.

CR 19-089 makes updates to administrative code pertaining to child care licensing based on federal changes to the child care development block grant.

CR 19-070 allows interest to be considered part of a total amount of child support owed for the purposes of administrative enforcement (i.e. wage garnishment).

Public hearings are often for testimony on proposed bills, and sometimes they are about rule changes.

 BEAST Robotics

BEAST Robotics 10-23.jpg

On my way home from Madison, I stopped by the 2202 BEAST Robotics community event where the BEAST Robotics team mentors and hangs out with the younger teams. The BEAST team has students from Brookfield East and Brookfield Central High School. I was able to watch a core values trial, hear about gracious professionalism, their trip to DC and World’s, friendships made and lessons learned. It was a really special couple of hours. I’m so proud of the young people of our district!

 TOPICAL TOWN HALLS

Topical Town Halls Topics.png

I announced a new initiative called "Topical Town Halls" - neighborhood educational opportunities about five different topics, hosted around the district throughout the winter and spring -- November, January, February, March, and April.

We are thinking about adding a May town hall as well on maternal health and combating the rising maternal mortality rates in Wisconsin -- let us know if that is a topic of interest to you!

Stay tuned for dates and locations of these town halls!

Read my press release here to see the topics, announcing our Topical Town Halls.
