Steineke: State Broadband Expansion Grants Now Open
MADISON – State Representative Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) announced today that the application for the next round for Rural Broadband Expansion Grants is now open.
“Ensuring every community in Wisconsin, regardless of size or location, has access to quality internet has been a focus of our caucus for years,” said Rep. Steineke. “Extending the Rural Broadband Expansion Grants will continue to propel our rural communities forward in their connectivity capabilities.”
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) has an application deadline of December 19, 2019 before they begin awarding up to $24 million in broadband grants in 2020. Rural Broadband Expansion Grant materials can be found on the PSC’s website.
“These grant dollars are another way that we are prioritizing the needs of our rural communities,” continued Rep. Steineke. “As local leaders around the district look into these grants in the coming weeks, my office stands ready to help them secure these funds.”
The WISCONSIN Budget, signed into law earlier this summer, allocates more than $40 million over the next two years to help expand broadband services into underserved areas. Since the program’s inception in 2014, the PSC estimates broadband access has been expanded to more than 75,000 homes and 4,300 businesses around the state.
