Madison… The Wisconsin state Assembly posthumously honored Jerry Golden on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, with the Hometown Hero Award in recognition of his selfless contributions to the Kaukauna community.
Jerry Golden was born in Appleton on March 14, 1933, and was united in marriage to his wife, Bonnie, a union that continued for 52 years until Jerry’s death in February of 2015. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a pillar of the Kaukauna community. He served as president of the Heart of the Valley Optimist Club, chairman of the Youth Appreciation Dinner, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He received both the Kaukauna High School Alumni Award and the Lifetime Achievement award from the Kaukauna Service Organization.
Jerry’s pride and joy were his children: Mary, Carol, and Tom, his grandchildren: Hannah, Jacob, Jena and Connor, and his daughter, Cathy, who resides in heaven. Jerry was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, serving as a church trustee, visiting church members residing in nursing or assisted living facilities, volunteering at the homeless shelter and welcoming new parishioners into the Holy Cross family.
