Marathon County Dispatcher to be Recognized as WI Assembly ‘Hometown Hero’

MADISON – The Wisconsin State Assembly will recognize Chad Zerkle from Schofield, Wisconsin as a “Hometown Hero” at the upcoming Assembly session on June 21st.

Zerkle, a Marathon County Dispatcher, was nominated by his State Representative, Patrick Snyder (Schofield), for helping a Wisconsin Rapids woman successfully save her choking daughter. Rachel Renner’s 18-month-old daughter, Riley, swallowed her sister’s plastic ring and was at risk of choking to death. After a panicked Renner dialed 911, Zerkle’s calm instructions allowed her to follow the procedures to dislodge the ring. While Zerkle insists he was simply doing his job, Renner maintains that he is both her and Riley’s hero.

The Wisconsin State Assembly sees giving back to the community as one of the most valuable characteristics one can have. The Assembly Hometown Heroes program seeks to identify and recognize individuals from around the state who give of themselves to make a difference in our communities and in the lives of those around them. Hometown Hero Award winners are invited and introduced as a special guest at an Assembly floor session and given the opportunity to speak.
