Kaukauna School District Receives School Safety Grant Funding
KAUKAUNA – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) joined Attorney General Brad Schimel at Victor Haen Elementary School in Kaukauna today to announce a new round of School Safety Grant awards. Kaukauna Area School District, in Rep. Steineke’s 5th Assembly District, is the recipient of $146,240 to be used for security upgrades and mental health training to maintain safe learning environments throughout the district.
“As August fast approaches, every parent knows that the beginning of the school year is just around the corner,” said Rep. Steineke. “I am proud to know that parents within Kaukauna, myself included, will be secure in knowing our kids will be safe within our schools.”
The School Safety Grant funds come as a result of legislative action from March 2018, in which the Legislature and Governor Walker voted to provide $100 million for school safety, among other measures and resources to provide safe learning environments for Wisconsin schools.
“In the spring, we knew we needed to take action to ensure every child, teacher, and parent feels safe and secure in our schools,” Rep. Steineke continued. “Seeing these grants being utilized by districts here at home, I am confident in the positive changes they will bring.”
Within the 5th Assembly District, Kaukauna joins Little Chute and Seymour as school districts to receive School Safety Grant funds from the first round of funding. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of School Safety has plans for a second round of grand funding that will be awarded starting in October.
