MADISON – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement regarding the Legislature’s positive response to the Interagency Council on Homelessness’ statewide action plan, “A Hand and a Home: Foundations for Success”:
“I am happy to put my support behind Senator Wirch’s letter to the Joint Finance Committee and the incoming Governor and Lieutenant Governor, encouraging them to review and implement changes recommended in the ICH’s action plan. While combating homelessness is much more complex than simply putting a roof over someone’s head, the plan is another great step forward in finding ways to end and prevent homelessness in Wisconsin. I will continue advocating for addressing homelessness in an empathetic and responsible way.
“Though we don’t always see eye to eye, it is encouraging to see my colleagues in both the Assembly and Senate taking an interest in an issue that touches so many of our friends and neighbors; it is my hope that Governor-Elect Evers and his administration will feel the same. I look forward to continuing my work in addressing homelessness in Wisconsin, and in finding opportunities for common ground where we can.”
