Rep. Steineke Votes to Bring Foxconn Careers to Wisconsin
MADISON – This evening, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) voted in favor of legislation to grow Wisconsin’s economy and bring thousands of good-paying careers to our state. An amended version of Special Session Assembly Bill 1 passed the Wisconsin State Assembly on a bipartisan vote of 59-30 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
“This is a transformative opportunity for the entire state,” Rep. Steineke said. “Every corner of the state will be positively affected by an increase in family-supporting careers, a strengthened economy, and the ecosystem such a large investment will create in Wisconsin.”
The impact of an employer the size of Foxconn will undoubtedly be felt around the state. Estimates show that Foxconn alone will contribute upwards of 13,000 careers to our state, with an additional 22,000 jobs being added as a part of a wide ripple-effect. The planned campus will be 20 million square feet, and its operations will require $4.26 billion in supplier purchases annually – much of which will be met by Wisconsin small businesses.
“Members of our community are seeing the value this partnership will have for families and businesses across the state,” Rep. Steineke continued. “I am excited to watch all of Wisconsin thrive as a result of this historic investment.”
