Rep. Steineke Marks June 14th, 2017 as Flag Day
Madison – Assembly Majority Leader, Representative Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), introduced legislation today that recognized June 14th, 2017 as Flag Day in Wisconsin. Steineke, who represents parts of Outagamie and Brown Counties, headed the joint resolution with other northeast Wisconsin representatives and senators.
Wisconsin has been a beacon for National Flag Day celebrations, beginning in 1885 when a Waubeka, WI school teacher held the first recognized formal observance of Flag Day. In that same vein, the City of Appleton in Outagamie County has held an annual National Flag Day parade since 1950, becoming one of the largest and longest-running celebrations in the country.
“I am proud to represent Outagamie County and its commitment to our country and flag,” Steineke said. “Their enthusiasm for this patriotic tradition has moved throughout Wisconsin as we marked today as Flag Day state-wide.”
