I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to read through my newsletter. Each week, I'll include information to keep you up to date with what is happening in Madison and the 1st Assembly District.

Bill Signed Into Law

Sen. Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) and I are proud that the governor recently signed into law our bill that improves the Safe Water Loan Program and Clean Water Fund Loan Program by lessening the administrative burden on local governments.

Over the past three decades, both programs have been tremendously successful in providing below-market interest rate loans to help fund water and wastewater utility projects. These projects are necessary for municipalities to comply with state and federal regulations and to ensure that our residents have access to clean water.

Our bill makes it easier for our local governments to apply for these loans.

Legislative Update

Earlier this week, the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities unanimously recommended passage of my bipartisan bill that eases the residency requirements for military veterans who would like to take part in Wisconsin's GI Bill program.

While it is always commendable to help our veterans who have sacrificed so much to ensure that we remain the land of the free, AB 515 also tries to address the worker shortage crisis we are facing right now in our state.

With this bill, I am confident that we will be able to encourage more of this desirable population to move to Wisconsin and make our state a permanent home. As a result, we will have more people here to fill the nearly 130,000 jobs that are currently available.

AB 515 is now eligible to be considered by the full Assembly. For more information, please click on this link.

In related news, I also testified in front of the Senate Committee on Housing, Commerce and Trade on my legislative proposal that will protect basic property rights and build better relationships between condominium associations and unit owners.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

I was honored to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony this week for the new Door County Hardware store in Sturgeon Bay.

Owner Amy Austad LaBott is moving from her Third Avenue location to a larger facility on Egg Harbor Road.

The outstanding customer service that has been a Door County Hardware tradition for three generations has allowed them to continue to grow and thrive. As such, they have run out of room and need more space.
