Commission on School Funding Announces Upcoming Hearings
The Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding, which I co-chair, has announced our upcoming dates and locations for our public hearings throughout the state. I am looking forward to hearing what the funding concerns are for each region, and gathering input from local education leaders and members of the public. I encourage all those interested in the issue of school funding to attend one of the hearings and share their thoughts and solutions with the commission. The hearing in our area will be on March 26th. These are the hearing dates and locations:
Monday, April 9th-Fennimore
Monday, April 23rd-Oshkosh
Monday, May 7th- Tomahawk
Monday, May 21st- Turtle Lake
Monday, June 4th- Madison
As the particular logistics of each of the hearings are settled, such as locations and times, they will be made available through public notice as well as on the commission’s legislative website: http://legis.wisconsin.gov/2017/committees/joint/brc-sf/
Congratulations Max and Connor McHugh!
Door County has produced some amazing athletes over the years, and Max and Connor McHugh are no exception. The McHugh brothers can boast some impressive achievements in the sport of competitive swimming.
Max McHugh, a senior at Sevastopol, set the national public high school record for the 100 yard breaststroke with 51.62 seconds in February. Not to be outdone, Connor, the older of the two, recently took the silver at the Big Ten Championship by finishing the 200 yard breaststroke with the second best time in the entire nation!
In 2016, both McHughs competed in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, and are striving towards the opportunity of representing our country in Tokyo during the 2020 Olympic Games.
I couldn't be more proud of the McHugh brothers, who exemplify the type of strength and character that our district has become so well known for.
Wisconsin Rises in State Rankings!
Wisconsin has increased its ranking amongst all the states, jumping up from 16th to 11th best state in the nation according to the US News and World Report.
This year's report added a new category, which ranks overall quality of life that citizens in each state enjoy. This is determined by factoring in the natural and social environment in a state, including drinking water quality, pollution, voter participation and community engagement. I am thrilled to share that Wisconsin has achieved the #3 slot on this list!
Among some of the other categories considered in this ranking were fiscal stability, education, and health care, of which our state scored in the top 20. When it came to opportunity, which takes into consideration education and income, Wisconsin earned an impressive ranking of 8th in the nation.
It is wonderful to see our great state receiving the recognition it deserves, and I remain dedicated to doing everything I can towards Wisconsin reaching the number one spot on this list.
