Door/
Kewaunee Legislative Days
This week I hosted the Door/ Kewaunee
Legislative Days group here in Madison. Over 120 advocates from Door and
Kewaunee Counties came down to the Capitol to lobby state lawmakers on
the issues of our area. The agenda items that were discussed were: rural
broadband, clean water, total maximum daily load (TMDL) study funding,
opposition to repealing the statewide school start date and funding of
the Harbor Assistance program.
I can honestly say that I am in awe of
how passionately and effectively all those constituents who attended
represented and promoted the 1st District. I am proud to serve as your
Representative.
I
would like to thank Caleb Frostman, the Executive Director of the Door
County Economic Development Corporation, and all the organizers who put
this event together. A special thank you to Lieutenant Governor Rebecca
Kleefisch for speaking at our reception, and to Speaker Robin Vos
(R-Rochester) and Representative Gary Hebl (D-Sun Prairie) for speaking
at the legislative breakfast.
Assembly Takes Action on HOPE Agenda
Earlier this week, the Assembly voted in
a bipartisan fashion on a number of bills brought forward by
Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette). These bills, which were
introduced as a part of a special session, will go a long way towards
combating the opioid and heroin epidemic.
I thank Representative John Nygren for
his continued, relentless leadership on this issue as he builds upon his
HOPE Agenda. I look forward to having the Governor sign these bills
into law and working with my colleagues to further tackle this issue.

Four-Legged Visitor at the Capitol
This week at the Capitol, we had the opportunity to meet Rumor,
the five year-old German
Shepherd named "Best in Show" at the 2017 Westminster Dog Show at
Madison Square Garden. Rumor and her owner, Kent Boyles, live in
Edgerton.
Rumor
was honored as a “Hometown Hero” on the floor of State Assembly earlier
this week! Wisconsin is proud of Rumor and it was great meeting her and
hosting her and her owner in the Capitol!
Green Bay Port Symposium
Earlier
today, I attended the Annual Port of Green Bay Symposium. The symposium
is a wonderful opportunity for those working on issues related to the
Port of Green Bay, as well as the Great Lakes, to get an update on the
progress being made in these areas. Congressman Mike Gallagher gave a
presentation on action being taken at the federal level for the
restoration of the Great Lakes and
Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch
spoke about the importance of
investing in infrastructure, and recognized the economic impact of the
port on the region.
I
found the symposium to be an informative and enjoyable experience. Thank
you to the Brown County Port and Rescue Department for hosting.
