Right to Try Bill Passes Assembly
On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State
Assembly voted in a bipartisan manner to pass
Assembly Bill 69, otherwise known as the 'Right to Try' bill.
I was proud to vote in favor of this crucial bill. The 'Right to Try'
bill does exactly what its name suggests, it gives
terminally
ill patients the right to try experimental drugs which have not received
full approval from the FDA, more quickly.
Oftentimes, terminally ill patients run out of options and are left to
die, I hope that the 'Right to Try' bill will give them one more option,
another hope to keep living.
Similar legislation has been passed in 31 other states, and I am proud
that Wisconsin is on the verge of becoming number 32.
This bill now awaits a vote in the Senate. If passed it will head to
Governor Walker's desk to be signed into law.
Wisconsin Legislature Wins National Award
Earlier this week, the Wisconsin State
Legislature was awarded the 2016 Kevin B. Harrington Award for
Excellence in Democracy Education from the
National Conference of State Legislatures. The Harrington
Award is given annually to an individual or organization for advancing
public understanding of state and local representative democracy.
The Wisconsin State Legislature
was recognized for its multiple communication streams and educational
initiatives that aid the public in understanding the role of the
Legislature and the legislative process. I am honored to be a part of
this Legislature and committed to continuing our engagement with the
public.
Wisconsin Farm Bureau Constituents Visit Madison
Earlier
this week I had the honor of hosting farmers from the first Assembly
District in my office in Madison. These farmers were participating in
the Wisconsin Farm Bureau's annual 'Ag Day at the Capitol'. This is the
largest gathering of farmers from all corners of our state. We had a
great conversation on the needs and opportunities for growing Wisconsin
agriculture.
I look
forward to continuing to build relationships with the farmers of our
district! Thanks for stopping by.
