Door County Youth In Government Group

One of the most enjoyable privileges I have as a state representative is meeting with civic minded youth such as the members of the Door County YMCA Youth in Government Group.  This wonderful group's purpose is to teach the next generation of citizens the process of our government by fully immersing them in it.  From elections to committee meetings and floor sessions, students research issues, draft bills and debate them in their very own legislative system to get a comprehensive understanding of how our government works.

It is always a pleasure to meet with the students involved in this group as they are among some of the brightest and engaged youth I have met.  Their interest in how our government functions illustrates the tremendous leadership potential that each on of these students possesses.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the numerous volunteers and local officials who selflessly donate their time to help the Door County YMCA Youth in Government group show the future leaders of our community not just that they can have an impact on how our state is governed but also exactly how that impact can be achieved.  This is absolutely essential if we hope to one day successfully pass the baton of leadership to these great young men and women.

 State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony!

One of my favorite holiday traditions at the Capital Building is the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  This year's tree is a spectacular 40 foot balsam fir which was harvested from the Town of Emery.  Donated by Jim Ryf, the tree has been decorated with ornaments made by children from all over the state.  I would like to invite everyone who makes it down to Madison this holiday season to stop in the capital building and take the time to view this magnificent holiday display.
