Make a Difference

As a nonpartisan legislative service agency and the independent auditors of the State, we provide objective advice to improve state government's efficiency and effectiveness. We find opportunities for the State to save money and we influence policy decisions. Our recent work has identified:
  • 4,154 instances in which transportation providers did not arrive to provide a scheduled trip for Medical Assistance recipients; (report 15-4)
  • a failure to require grant and loan recipients to submit information showing that contractually required jobs were actually created or retained; (report 15-3)
  • a failure to follow an approved schedule for determining the penalty amounts to assess for violations of campaign finance, lobbying, and code of ethics laws by public officials; (report 14-14)
  • a failure to require local agencies to retain documents supporting applicants' eligibility for energy and weatherization assistance services; (report 14-8) and,
  • an estimated $972,600 in unbudgeted overtime costs incurred by UW institutions attributable to the implementation of a new human resource system. (report 14-4)
