Welcome to the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means webpage.

This is an exciting time for our state! Our unemployment rate is at an historic low, our budgets are balanced, our schools are thriving and debt is as low as it has been in years, but our tax code is unfair, unbalanced and burdensome.

The Assembly Committee on Ways and Means has been restructured with the intent of modernizing Wisconsin's tax code. Four subcommittees have been established to research our tax code and report back to the committee as a whole.

Throughout this process we must ask ourselves, “what would our tax code look like if we created it on purpose?"

The Assembly Ways and Means Committee will examine each part of our state's tax code and present a plan to the legislature that will make our tax code fair, low and easy and continue to move Wisconsin forward. Wisconsin has always taken pride in being proactive, and now is the time to develop a revenue neutral tax code that will unshackle Wisconsinites potential and allow our proud citizens and businesses to thrive in the 21st century and beyond.

We want to hear from you! Tax reform doesn't happen overnight and it will not be easy. Take the survey on this website and tell us what you think tax reform should look like for the 21st century and beyond.

Federal Initiative.jpg

President Trump and the House Republicans have recently discussed updating the federal tax code. Here are some of their Initiatives:

Tax relief for middle-class families.

The simplicity of “postcard” tax filing for the vast majority of Americans.

Tax relief for businesses, especially small businesses.

Ending incentives to ship jobs, capital, and tax revenue overseas.

Broadening the tax base and providing greater fairness for all Americans by closing special interest tax breaks and loopholes.

Provide tax relief by roughly doubling the standard deduction.
