Hello, and welcome to the website for the Speaker's Task Force on Foster Care. This website will give you 24-hour access to the work and progress made by the task force over the next several months. You can find public hearing notices, testimony, and any news about the task force's findings.
Our bipartisan committee is tasked with developing ideas to improve the child welfare system. Our most recent numbers report that more than 7,000 children were placed into foster care in 2015. That's 300 more children than the previous year. If that trajectory continues, we could have 10,000 children in need of homes by 2023.
Over the next few months, we will travel the state to get input from local experts and people actually involved in the foster care system. Through these public hearings, we will gather enough feedback to create future laws that can help families and children once they've entered the system, once they age out of the system, and how we can prevent them from entering in the first place.
Please, don't hesitate to contact either of our offices with any questions or comments. We are looking forward to finding real solutions to the struggles facing those involved in the child welfare system, and would be happy to hear your input.
